THE BAGUIO City Police Office will introduce measures to help ease traffic in the city particularly during holidays.
This was assured by BCPO city director Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles who assessed most of the volume of traffic are experienced at the Pacdal area where most of the tourist frequent the Good Shepherd, Wright Park, Mansion House and Mines View area, aside from the top of Session Road and the entry point leading to the Baguio City Market.
"On matters of strategy, it will always be the people who should help in solving the traffic. It is for this reason why I have requested the city for additional traffic enforcers and auxiliaries who would fill up the needed number of traffic personnel with the deployment from 6am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 8pm," Saculles explained.
At present, the BCPO has around 46 traffic auxiliary force but would need around 80-90 personnel to man the so called 25 critical and conflict areas which would have overlapping of deployment schedule.
"We have made an appeal to the City Council to consider refurbishing the existing traffic lights in the city which should be attuned to the present volume of traffic, aside from increasing the fine on obstruction of traffic to help in deterring traffic build up," added Saculles.
The city's top cop also asserted the creation of additional multi level pay parking areas particularly at the Burnham Park, Igorot Park, Old Library, the Jadewell parking area among others which should be properly managed.
The city's largest mall is scheduled to finish its newest pay parking area by August of this year.
"The city treasury who manages the pay parking at Burnham Park have also proposed the creation of a multi-level pay parking area which will act as an engineering intervention to help ease the traffic in the city," the police chief pointed out.
"One of my proposal is for us to have special training for our traffic beat men, this problem of traffic in the city should be led by persons who knows how to drive and to look at it as an engineering problem due to the fact that what we manage here are vehicles," Saculles added.
