Bello: Consensus on economic reforms agreement out soon

LABOR Secretary Sylvestre Bello III, who is also the chair of the government peace panel, said the working committees on Comprehensive Agreement On Socio-Economic Reforms (Caser) will possibly "arrive at the consensus" that will be presented on the fifth round of peace talks slated on May 26 to June 2 in Netherlands.

In an interview at the sidelines of the 2017 National Labor Day celebration at the People's Park in Davao City, Monday afternoon, Bello said informal meetings were done by the members of the respective working committees for Caser to discuss the contentious issues left after the last peace talks.

"Nagkaroon nang exchange of drafts and it is possible that they will arrive at a consensus," Bello said.

Among the contentious topics left after the recent talks are the issues on coverage, confiscation, compensation, lease/leaseback, plantations, international agreements/ domestic law, political power/implementation mechanisms, land use, private insurance and terminologies.

He also said that the respective working committees that tackle the bilateral ceasefire agreement are also conducting meetings and are also expected to come up with an agreed draft.

"They are about to arrive at the consensus at the definition of terms and the parameters of the bilateral ceasefire," he said.

He added that the working committees on the comprehensive agreement on political and constitutional reforms may also meet. (KVC)
