VEGETABLE stakeholders are offering fresh salad to people on Thursday, July 13, at the trading depot at kilometer 5, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Proving supremacy over the industry, the League of Associations of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Area Inc. will present 1.3 ton fresh salad enough to feed as much as 2,000 people.
League president Norma Ganase said the event aims to promote the vegetable industry and tourism in the area.
The league is composed of 16 associations of stakeholders composed of packers, disposers, dealers and farmers, who thought of celebrating the 1984 inception of the trading post on Thursday.
Partnering with the newly formed league is the School of Knowledge and Development (SKD) Academy School of Culinary Arts, who will extend manpower and logistics.
SKD manager Jonathan Micua said there will be 50 student chefs supervised by three executive chefs to assist in creating the giant salad.
The salad will contain romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumber, red and green bell pepper, and tomatoes with boiled marble potatoes, brocoli and sugar beets. SKD will prepare three dressings: mango, balsamic vinaigrette and strawberry.
With the theme “Remembering our humble beginnings, nurturing our present, and enhancing further potentials of the local vegetable industry,” the foundation day will be conducting several activities including vegetable quiz contest, vegetable quality contest, vegetable landscaping, vegetable carving, the search for the heaviest, biggest, and longest vegetable, and the event’s highlight, the presentation of the biggest vegetable salad.
Micua said this year’s foundation day will be a preparation for them to beat Russia’s biggest vegetable salad record in a bid to be included in the Guinness Book of Records.
The newly formed league has pooled money from members and community and raised over P300,000 for the pilot event eyed to become an annual gathering.
Mayor Romeo Salda and the entire Municipal Council are backing the event.
Salda said she lauded the initiative of the league in coming up with the idea of the celebration and promised continuous support in promoting the foundation day as a yearly event. (With a report from Arianne Jo Julaton/ UP Baguio intern)
