Beware of men using guv’s name to solicit

A GROUP of Tagalog-speaking men have been reported to be using the name of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to solicit funds for the anti-drug campaign.

The Office of the Governor through Executive Assistant Eric Loretizo issued a notice to “warn the public about this hoax and modus operandi meant to tarnish the good name of the governor.”

Reports reached the office Thursday, January 4, about a group of people doing the rounds of local gas service stations and their owners allegedly asking donations.

Such effort to collect money using the name of the Governor’s Office is downright illegal and the public must be made aware of this bogus operation, Loretizo said.

It was further reported that these people, in soliciting funds, entice gas station owners to do so in exchange for projects from the Capitol.

Below is the text message that the apparent “budol-budol” operators are sending out to their prospective victims: “Mam...xxx...gud afternun. Mam sa office ito ni governor alfredo g, maranon jr, negros occ, mam kausapin kayo ni gov, tnx +63 956 218 1895.”
