BIR files tax raps vs 3 QC firms

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Tuesday filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) separate tax evasion complaints against three companies in Quezon City.

Slapped with charges for violating Section 255 of the tax code was Multi Dimensional Trading and its owner James Caruncho Maniego.

According to the BIR, the firm, located in Silangan, D3, Cubao, Quezon City is being sued for a total deficiency tax liability amounting to P5.23 million.

Likewise charged for violating Section 255 in relation to Sections 253 (d) and 256 of the tax code were Eco State Builders Incorporated (EBI) and its manager Elenita Inchiong and Medityre Corporation (Medityre) and its president Lorenzo Vito Sarmiento.

EBI, a construction firm located in Scout De Guia, Sacred Heart, Quezon City was assessed with a tax liability totalling to P2.71 million, while Medityre, located in Dela Paz, Pasig is being sued for a total deficiency tax liability amounting to P2.64 million.

Medityre is a business engaged in buying and selling of goods and merchandise.

BIR Quezon City's record showed that the abovenamed firms and individuals were served corresponding Letter Notices, Letters of Authority (LOA), Requests for Presentation of Records and other notices disclosing their alleged liabilities to the government.

Subpoenas were also served, but all these were ignored by the companies, said the bureau.

"Respondent's obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay the taxes due to the government," the BIR said. (SunStar Philippines)
