Birdwatching in San Enrique

BARANGAY Tibsoc in San Enrique, Negros Occidental is the place to be if you want to watch one of the most beautiful creations of God—the birds!

Yes, Tibsoc is home to migratory birds coming from afar, even from other countries. Do you know that some of the birds there are said to have come from China and Korea?

I heard about birdwatching sometimes ago, but not until I attended the launching and formal opening of the San Enrique FITS ( Farmers Information Technology Services) Center last year that I learned more about it from Barangay Captain Rafael Quitco

Actually, the best time to go for birdwatching is from September to April, and take note, with a specific time and dress code— 5 a.m. to 7 a. m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (during low tide) and you must wear earth colors shirts.

The season of bird migration is being looked forward eagerly by the fisher folks. It has also attracted local and foreign tourists and bird enthusiasts.

Tibsoc was declared as “Wetland Reserve Area” by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. When you go to southern Negros, you can see the 14-hectare mangrove area situated at the mouth of San Enrique River towards the sea and the 80-hectare mudflat that serves as the stopover of migratory birds.

To preserve this wonderful gift of nature, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and the Municipal Government of San Enrique implemented mangrove conservation and protection program in partnership with the Tibsoc Multipurpose Cooperative.

You must be aware that the Provincial Government has declared the 4th week of June as the Provincial Environment Week.

There was some time that I was one of the judges going around to select the best school or barangay in environmental program. Why am I telling you this? It is not surprising that Tibsoc was adjudged as the “Most Environment- Friendly Coastal Barangay” in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
