VARIOUS militant group leaders are set to hold their "Blood Bucket Challenge" after a press conference Wednesday, September 3, at Freedom Park on Roxas Avenue in Davao City.
Althea Amoguis, media liaison for the Bayan in Southern Mindanao Region, said in a phone interview on Tuesday that leaders from Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-SMR and Makabayan, along with Gabriela in Davao, will perform the blood bucket challenge.
"The mass leaders will pour bucket of blood -- not totally real blood -- to show protest on the continuing human rights violations, which includes vilification on legal progressive organizations, under the counter insurgency program Oplan Bayanihan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)," Amoguis said.
Amoguis said such action is also to dare the military and President Benigno Aquino III's administration to stop the militarization in communities, prosecute all perpetrators of extra-judicial killings, address all the root cause of armed conflict, and resume peace negotiation.
The conference will also be held in response to the criticisms of certain Captain Nathaniel Morales of the Army's 10th Infantry Division during the NSTP Forum dubbed as "Threat to National Security" last August 23 at Ateneo de Davao University.
Amoguis said the officer accused legal progressive organizations, such as League of the Filipino Students, Kilusang Mayo Uno, and College Editor Guild of the Philippines, among others, as the legal fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front.
Meanwhile, Eastern Mindanao Command Public Information Officer Captain Alberto Caber dared the leaders to support the local government unit, members of the Philippine National Police and AFP in implementing the security peace and order in the region.
"Anyway, they have the freedom to express naman. Tinamaan siguro yung ego nila sa forum kung kaya't ganyan nalang sila mag react. Masyado naman ata silang nagpapansin sa blood bucket challenge na iyan. Hindi dapat ganun," Caber said.
"Gumagawa na naman sila ng eksena para takotin ang mga tao. Hindi maganda yan. Imbis na gumagawa sila ng kung anu-anong kwento't eksena, mas mabuti pang makipag-kaisa sila sa amin na labanan itong mga extortion, atrocities at iba pa na ginagawang kabila," Caber added. (ICT)
