Body formed to protect seniors

TO ADDRESS all concerns, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte created a group who will act on the complaints filed by a senior citizen against anybody who violates their rights for social security.

Duterte, by virtue of Executive Order No. 35, formed the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) Complaint Board, with him as the chair.

The members of the board are Osca head, City Legal Officer, City Social Services and Development Officer, City health Officer, and an official of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association.

Duterte said the board will act on any complaint filed by a senior citizen against those who deprive them of their benefits and will submit quarterly report to the City Mayor, furnishing a copy to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Under Republic Act No. 9994, also known as the "Expanded Senior Citizens Act," the senior citizens are granted with additional benefits and privileges.

"There are persons, natural or juridical who refuse to honor the Senior Citizens Card and to comply with the grant of special disbursement privileges," Duterte said in his EO.
