Bombing simulation exercise slated next week

THE Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), with other law enforcement agencies and rescue units, will hold bombing simulation exercises in two venues on July 11.

Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, head of cluster on CDRRMO, met with Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of BCPO, on Friday, July 7, to discuss the scenarios of the exercise to be held in the morning at the Old City Hall then at the Bacolod Government Center.

“It will last for about 30 to 45 minutes,” Vargas said, adding that it will not cause inconvenience to motorists.

Joining the exercise are the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Red Cross, Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, among others.

The drill will show people how to evacuate from a building or any establishment, how to handle a bomb threat, and how to facilitate the rescue operations.

Vargas said the police are the first responders during a bomb threat or bombing incident. It will be followed by other law enforcement agencies and rescue units upon instruction of the police and other authorities.

There will be personnel assigned in the designated venues during the exercise, he added.
