A NINE-year-old boy got injured after he played with a gun he mistook for a toy in Samboan, Cebu on Tuesday.
Ryan, 9 (not his real name) was hit in his left leg, said PO1 Ramon Catubig of the Samboan Police Station.
The boy was walking home from school when he found a .38 revolver in a grassy lot in Barangay Bulangsuran past 5 p.m.
Ryan picked up the gun and played with it before it accidentally went off.
The gunshot alerted some residents, who saw the boy was bleeding.
Ryan was rushed by his parents to the Malabuyoc District Hospital while the firearm was turned over to the police.
Out of harm’s way
The boy, who is in grade school, is already out of harm’s way.
Catubig, when interviewed by Sun.Star Cebu, said the firearm only had one bullet because the police found one empty shell in the cylinder.
He said they are still investigating as to who owned the firearm, so that police could file charges against the owner.
Catubig said they have asked the boy’s father if he owns the firearm, which the latter denied.
He said they suspected the firearm was only thrown in the area.
