BPI: Internal problem rectified, access to ATMs restored

MANILA -- The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) said on Wednesday evening, June 7, that they have fixed the "internal system error" which led to mis-postings in its client's bank account balances.

"We would like to announce that we have rectified the mis-postings related to the internal systems problem," BPI said in a statement released at 10 p.m., Wednesday, adding that access to ATM machines has also been restored.

"Please accept our gratitude for your patience, and our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced," BPI said to its clients.

The bank company reported on Wednesday morning that a glitch caused some transactions occurring between April 27 and May 2 to be double-posted as of June 6.

BPI suspended access to electronic channels after identifying the root cause of the error to speed up rectification.

With total assets of P1.45 billion as of end-2016, BPI is the third biggest universal bank in the country after BDO Unibank and Metropolitan Bank.

The bank has a network of over 800 branches in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Europe, and close to 3,000 ATMs and cash deposit machines. (Nicko Tubo/SunStar Philippines)
