Briones to grace DepEd-NIR turn-over rites in Dumaguete

EDUCATION Secretary Leonor Briones will attend the turn-over of the Department of Education-Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) to Western Visayas and Central Visayas in rites at Hotel Essencia in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental Monday.

DepEd-NIR Director Gilbert Sadsad said on Sunday they will turn over documents and more than 30 personnel, mostly volunteers to the regional directors of Regions 6 and 7, following the dissolution of NIR.

Sadsad said they already held their last day of office last

September 29 as they finished their clearing operation last week.

“We will have a sort of celebration as we part ways because we still want a happy ending despite the dissolution of NIR,” Sadsad said.

Sadsad served as regional director of DepEd-NIR for one year and nine months. He will be transferred to DepEd-Mimaropa Region as officer-in-charge regional director.

During Sadsad’s stint, the DepEd-NIR initiated various trainings for teachers, guidance counselors, and school heads, provided permit to operate licenses to non-DepEd public schools for senior high schools, and private senior high schools, sponsored leadership trainings for students as well as hosted the National Brigada Eskwela awarding ceremony.

The DepEd-NIR also excelled in sports after it was declared over-all champion in Asia-Pacific Regional Softball and first runner-up in the World Series Softball in Delaware, USA.
