HIGHLIGTHING the milestone of the school across four significant periods, Benguet State University launched a coffee table book entitled, BSU History Coffee Table Book: A Centennial Journey and BSU Story Monograph Series.

The coffee table book shows collections and thoughts in the past.

The idea started from the BSU History Committee in 2011 chaired by Maria Luz Fang-asan.

Under each period, a series of significant events and expansions by the school in fulfillment of its role as a public learning institution from pre-war (1903-1941), Japanese occupation (1942-1945), post-war (1946-1985) and its university years (1986-2016).

BSU history committee chair Dr. Grace Bengwayan said primary sources of information include archive documents, in-house publications, school organs, memoirs, interviews, and works of historical studies.

“The historical study about the school by Stanley Anongos and Tecah Sagandoy in the year 1916-1985 greatly helped in balancing the perspective of how the narratives should be written,” said Bengwayan.

Moreover, photographs were donated by alumni and retired teachers to give life in the pages of the book.

Most were obtained during a two day workshop titled, Mapping the Collective Memories of Former BSU Teachers, Officials and Alumni in May 2014 and others from archives of the BSU Historical Museum collections and personal albums given by alumni.

In August 23, alumni of the Mountain Collegian, the official student publication of the university, volunteered to write the narratives.

The book remains to be work in progress, and hopes to be completed before the end of the year or January.

BSU president Feliciano Calora Jr. said their alumni remains to be strength of the university where they promote a huge contribution through their stories and shared experiences.

Calora added part of the historical museum building must also be maintained and infrastructure development should complement the existing museum which was built in the 1920’s.
