Bukidnon quake damages homes, buildings

THE magnitude 5.0 earthquake that jolted parts of Mindanao over the weekend caused cracks and minor damages in residential houses and some buildings in Valencia City and Lantapan town in Bukidnon, the police said.

Authorities have monitored the effects of the tremor as reported by the different disaster risk reduction and management offices (DRRMO) in the province.

In Valencia City, the wall of the barangay hall of Banlag village was cracked while two small concrete houses were also damaged in barangay Lurogan.

A 7-year-old girl in the said area suffered minor abrasions at her back due to the falling debris.

A cracked wall on the New Bus Terminal in Hagkol village and slight damage at the ceiling of the market in Barangay Poblacion were also noted.

The Lantapan town police also reported several cracked walls at the second floor of the new building of Lantapan Police Station.

Police said after the roughly three seconds quake around 3:39 p.m. Saturday, August 5, the search and rescue teams and equipment of the Bukidnon provincial public safety company were organized and prepared for deployment.

Personnel of the Valencia City Police Stations have immediately proceeded at the affected villages except Barangay Banlag, which is 15 kilometers away from the police station and an alleged New People’s Army infested area.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake's epicenter was in Valencia City and had a depth of nine kilometers.

Authorities have advised the public to be careful for possible aftershocks.
