Cadac awaits construction of drug rehabilitation center

THE City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) of Bacolod City is awaiting the approval of Mayor Evelio Leonardia for the construction of Treatment Rehabilitation Center (TRC) facility in Barangay Alijis.

Elizabeth Caumban, Cadac secretariat, said they already submitted the proposal and building plan of the TRC to accommodate the severe drug surrenderers in Bacolod.

She said the City Government has a three-hectare lot along Purok Pedrosa in Barangay Alijis that is currently occupied by the City Agriculture Office.

Caumban noted the Department of Health (DOH) had earlier allotted P50 million for a drug rehabilitation facility in Bacolod.

She said the proposed TRC will have 50 beds. "This will be the first drug rehabilitation center in Bacolod," she added.

She said the City Government could no longer improve or take over the management of Reach Drug Rehabilitation Center because the lot was owned by the Negros Occidental Provincial Government.

On February, Cadac started the second batch of the community based-drug rehabilitation program for drug surrenderers in Bacolod.

Every police station of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has a total of 20 drug surrenderers and they can accommodate at least 200 drug surrenderers for rehabilitation.

The drug rehabilitation team is composed of personnel from City Health Office, BCPO, and Department of Social Services and Development.
