Cadiz councilor resigns

A FIRST-TERM councilor of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental has resigned effective September 30.

Cadiz City Vice Mayor Chingben Merhan identified the city councilor as Dovie Ibanez Lacson.

Merhan said that Lacson resigned for "personal reasons.”

"We are saddened by his resignation as she was an effective legislator and shared good ideas when he was a member of our city council," the vice mayor said.

He added that a copy of Lacson's resignation letter was sent to the Department of Interior and Local Government.

"The rules states that when a councilor resigns, his resignation letter shall be submitted to the city or municipal council where he or she is a member of and it will be discussed in open session," Merhan said.

Ibanez is a member of the United Negros Alliance led by Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., who will decide on who will take over his place as member of the City Council.
