THE 2013 Calinan Fiesta 16 & Under chess tournament is set to unfurl on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Calinan Park.
Organizer Jojo Palero, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said the one-day competition is open to elementary and High School students of Calinan Proper.
Players from Calinan National High school, Lt. Col. Villafuerte Elementary School, Calinan Central Elementary School, St. Francis Elementary and High School, and Los Amigos National High School.
"The event aims to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among the participants and to also find potential players who will become the next masters," Palero said.
The tournament will follow a seven-round Swiss System format with each chess players having 25 minutes to play.
Registration is free. Students, however, are required to present their IDs.
Cash prizes and medals are at stake for the winners of the chess meet that is organized by the Calinan Chess Club and Calinan Barangay Council. (RJFL)
