MERRY-makers may be advised to take it easy after the numerous binges during the holidays, but participants in one unique party at the Ayala Terraces last Friday had the freedom to load up on as much carbs as they could.

Some 500 folks crammed into the Ayala Terraces to join the carbo-loading party for today’s early-morning Cebu City Marathon at the IT Park.

Aside from the pasta-meal, they were also treated to a film showing of the “Spirit of the Marathon,” a documentary film chronicling the story of six individuals as they trained for and eventually competed in the Chicago Marathon.

“It was an excellent way to show our guests the Cebuano hospitality. Perfect for this time of Asia’s biggest festival, the Sinulog,” said Cebu Executive Runners Club’s and Sun.Star Cebu columnist John Pages.

Aside from the film showing, the participants, which included a few out-of-town runners, listened to speeches from CERC’s Pages and Meyrick Jacalan Mayor, Tomas Osmeña RP Ironman winner Noy Jopson, Rio dela Cruz and marathoners Haide Acuña and Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal III.

“I’m very impressed with how they were able to come up with this. Dili ni basta-basta pag organize,” said former Cebu Football Association president Jonathan Maximo, who joined the party along with his son Iggy and wife Sheila.
