Carina sweeps CAR; zero casualty noted

TYPHOON Carina sweep through the region bringing sporadic rains and strong winds.

Despite the strong winds and the torrential rains on Sunday, the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council with the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region reported no casualties as of Monday afternoon.

Amount of rainfall in Baguio City as of 8 a.m. of July 31 was recorded to be at 49.2 mm.

On Monday, storm signal number one was hoisted over Baguio and Benguet, while parts of Apayao is under signal number 2.

Although no death was reported as of this writing, the RDRRMC said several injuries were recorded in some parts of the region.

In Ifugao Province, Tirson Pindug who was driving a tricycle with his children on their way to church, was hit by loosened and fallen rock debris on July 31. The victim was initially treated at Panopdopan District Hospital and referred to Veteran’s Regional Hospital, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.. Pindug is now in stable condition.

In Abra, 10 persons were rescued after being stranded along the Abra River at Brgy. San Antonio, Bangued, Abra. They were rescued by Charlie Company 24th IB 7th ID and were eventually sent back to their respective homes.

All major roads leading to Baguio City have remained open to traffic while in Benguet, the Asin-Nangalisan-San-Pascual Road, Tadiangan Section has one lane passable while the Abatan-Buguias Road is not passable due to landslide.

In Kalinga, the Lubuagan-Batong Buhay Road, Uma, Lubuagan, Kalinga is hardly passable due to road slip.

In Abra, barangay roads in Baybayatin, Pang-ot, Pulot and Cullago all in Lagayan are not passable due to landslides.

In Mountain Province, the Cagayan via Tabuk – Enrile Road is closed due to landslide at K0395+850, Silin Section. Punch thru clearing operation is ongoing within the area while a 30m landslide at Barangay Bangaan, Sagada has forced a power outage with electric posts affected by the slide. (Maria Elena Catajan)
