Carles mayor open to lifestyle check

CARLES, Iloilo Mayor Rene Cordero is open to a lifestyle check by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Cordero is among the government officials in Western Visayas who will be subjected to a lifestyle check, according to NBI-Western Visayas Director Max Salvador in a radio interview.

But Cordero said he is yet to receive a communication from the NBI regarding the matter.

“I am not hiding anything. My properties are open,” he said Tuesday, September 19.

He said all his properties were listed in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.

He said the lifestyle check stemmed from allegations hurled at him by individuals who are interested to take his position.

He denied being a drug protector, noting that he is supportive to the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against illegal drugs.

Aside from Cordero, the NBI also conducted a lifestyle check on Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, who was tagged by the President as drug protector.

A team from NBI-Western Visayas visited the house of Mabilog last August 31 and took photos of the mayor’s house.

In an earlier interview, lawyer Mark Piad, spokesperson of Mabilog, said they will cooperate with the lifestyle check as long as it is within the bounds of the law. (PNA)
