‘Carnapper’ killed, 1 injured in police shootout

A SUSPECTED carnapper died while his unidentified companion was seriously injured after they engaged in a police shootout at Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City Monday, August 14.

Killed was Mark John Pabila of Barangay Malingin, Bago City.

Police Station 6 head Jovil Sedel said they received a call for assistance from a concerned citizen, who noticed two suspicious-looking persons in an abandoned house at Doña Juliana Subdivision.

Sedel and his personnel responded to verify the report.

They found the two suspects doing something on a “chop-chop” black vehicle. However, upon sensing the presence of police, they ran inside the house to hide and fired at the operatives.

Sedel said both suspects passed through the ceiling to get into the other side to escape.

They were chased by policemen until they reached Sharina Heights, where the shootout happened around 5:20 p.m.

Pabila was hit in the face while his companion sustained wounds in his leg and arm.

Both were rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where Pabila was declared dead.

Sedel said Pabila’s companion remains unidentified as of Monday night.

Recovered from the scene were Pabila’s .38 caliber with three fired cartridges and two unfired bullets while the other suspect yielded an improvised pen gun.

Sedel said Pabila was previously charged for robbery, but the case was dismissed due to the complainant’s lack of interest.

He added that they are checking if the two suspects are part of an organized robbery or carnapping group.
