Cashier shot by security guard fighting for life

A CASHIER of a convenience store in Poblacion, Argao town is in critical condition after he was shot by a security guard yesterday afternoon.

Reymark Umerez, 23, who hails from Barangay Binlod, was badly wounded on his neck when he was shot by Herwin Ahiro Labos, 33, with a caliber .38 pistol.

They had a fight at 1:25 p.m.

“The guard allegedly intervened with the duties of the cashier, which led to a fight. The victim threatened the guard with a fistfight but the latter shot him instead,” PO3 Benjamin Gerosaga of the Argao Police Station said.

Residents were shocked when they heard a gunshot from the convenience store.

Umerez was first rushed to the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital where he was revived.

He was transferred to the South General Hospital and is fighting for his life.

According to his relatives, the victim was a young father, making ends meet by working at the convenience store.

Labos hails from Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City and had been working in the store for about a month.

The gun he used to shoot Umerez was confiscated with four live bullets, while an empty slug was also recovered.

Labos was arrested and is detained at the Argao Police Station.
