CCPO to use hearses during Oplan Tokhang

FUNERAL cars will now be part of the Oplan Tokhang program of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

These will be driven around the streets of drug-infested barangays, according to CCPO Director Joel Doria.

“Police operatives will announce the implementation of Oplan Tokhang from inside the vehicles,” Doria said in Tagalog.

The Oplan Tokhang jingle, which was composed by the grandson of the late Boholano singer Yoyoy Villame, PO3 Janew Villame from Clarin Municipal Police Station, will be played during the convoy.

The concept is similar to what the Tabuelan Police Station did, which piqued public interest.

It’s also the funeral parlors’ way of supporting the city’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, Doria said.

Contact numbers

Police chiefs from the city’s 11 stations have been directed to coordinate with the nearest funeral parlor in their area of responsibility.

In Central Visayas, at least 71,000 drug users and pushers have submitted themselves to authorities and promised to stop their involvement with illegal drugs as part of Oplan Tokhang.

Recently, a man was shot in the foot by a security guard after he tried to escape from police during Oplan Tokhang.

Police have been monitoring reports that some surrenderees continue to be involved in the illegal drug trade.

Tarpaulins and calling cards with hotline numbers of police stations will be distributed to commuters if they want to report any drug-related information in their area.

Globe subscribers can send the name of a suspected drug user of pusher and their address to 0906-390-3402 while Sun subscribers can do the same to 0942-805-7699.
