Cebu hosts 1st Super D bike race in PH

THE Cebu Extreme Bikers Union (Cebu) Inc. will host the first Super D Bike Race in the Philippines, a two-day Bike Camp set amid the breathtaking scenery of the mountain barangay of Sirao on June 3 and 4, 2016.

Organizers hope to give the mountain bike community the opportunity to come together and strengthen ties in a Night Camp on June 3 and a tough and exciting Super D Bike Race on June 4. The Super D will measure not only the endurance and strength but also the skills and technical prowess of curious and experienced mountain bikers in Cebu .

The Super D race is the first of its kind formally organized in the Philippines although it has been going on for many years in the USA and other countries. Super D belongs to the gravity race, similar to a downhill cycling race but there are a few cross-country sections in between. It is also similar to the popular Enduro race, a form of motorcycle sport run mostly on off-road courses, consisting of many obstacles and challenges.

The Super D in Sirao will be feature an eight-kilometer course, which will be a combination of downhill and cross country tracks, with drops, jumps, bridges, boulders and tight turns along the way. For this race, the track has multiple options. The shorter track is more difficult and highly technical, while the longer ones are easier but take more time. The participant can take two hits and the race is open to several categories.

This is the fourth Bike Camp organized by Cebu, which was founded in 1999 by Roy Ricacho and Atty. Butch Cañares. Cebu is a SEC- registered organization that promotes mountain biking and ecological awareness and conservation.

A sports photo contest will also held during the race, while the camp site will be at the Sirao Pictorial Garden and Mini Camping Site. The first 30 people to register for the night camp will receive a backpack, while the frst 50 to register for either camping or Super D race will receive a Bike-Camp shirt. PR
