CEBU’s ultramarathoners Bayani Alvarez and Presciosa Sanchez dominated the grueling Negros Oriental 100 Ultramarathon, which concluded last Sunday.
Bayani Alvarez of Spectrum Runners Club-Cebu clocked 10 hours, 19 minutes, and 29 seconds to win the men’s overall title in the 103-km. race, which started in Bayawan City last Saturday and ended in Dumaguete City on Sunday.
Edilberto Batiancila, also from Spectrum Cebu, came second in 10:20:45, while Besario Timoteo of Team MDRC clocked 10:34:21 for third place.
Sanchez, meanwhile, completed a sweep for Spectrum-Cebu after finishing in 13:02:49 to walk away with the women’s overall title.
Aileen Saligumba of Bacolod Road Stallions nabbed second place with 14:31:40 and Jezza Bolanio of Team Kapwa Davao took third place in 14:35:14.
Brenger and Salvie Pabalate of Infinitea Runners Club won the Man and Wife Tandem category after finishing the course in 19:11:16.
Regil and Adele Gella of Team Kapwa Davao came second in 20:21:52, while Roy and Marie Nene Lansang of Mandaue Runners Club placed third with 21:20:21.
The other winners from Cebu were Mary Luz Shimizu (16:10:36) and Marlita Busa (16:10:37) who placed second and third in the women’s 45 to 49 division; Tony Cabardo (13:03:27) of Infinitea Runners Club who took second place in the men’s 40 to 49. Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC) president Tony Galon (16:10:50) also finished the race and was one of the 177 finishers.
