Cebuano lands in top 10 of Mechanical Engineering Board Exam

A CEBUANO is among the top 10 passers of the Mechanical Engineering Board Exam given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last month.

Alfredo Relucio Jr., a graduate of De La Salle University, ranked ninth in the board exam with a score of 89.4 percent.

Relucio shared that mechanical engineering had always been his course of choice because he was inspired by his father, who would show him how to use tools and fix things around the house.

“Eventually, as I got older, I became interested in solving problems and fixing things—like when my PlayStation wasn’t working I’d open it up, take it apart and try to see what the problem was,” he said.

He recalled that he was earlier torn between enrolling in a review center in Manila and coming home to Cebu. He eventually chose to join a review center in Cebu to be closer to his family and focus on preparing for the exam.

“My biggest goal in life is to make a difference, no matter how big or small it may be. I did my best to make sure that my friends and I would all pass the board and become full-fledged engineers. The next step is to hopefully expand this idea of helping others in the community,” he said.

Relucio is an avid basketball fan, video-gamer, and an aspiring graphic artist. “It was an easy way to relax, have fun and bond with your friends to keep our mind off of the stress that memorizing all the formulas brought,” he shared.

Aside from his family, who he said keeps him grounded, Relucio is also grateful to his mentors and colleagues for their support. “And most of all, to God. None of this would have been possible without Him,” he added.

Other topnotchers were Jason Nelson Corbita of Xavier University, who ranked first with a score of 92.2 percent, and Von Eric Damirez from the University of Batangas, who ranked second with a score of 90.15.
