CEBUANO golfers made a decent finish in the three-day 4th Emcor Davao Pro-Am Golf Tournament at the Apo Golf and Country Club.
Cebu's professional golfer Mark Dy paired with Atty. Jovi Neri and made the cut after last Tuesday’s round. They finished tied at 27th out of 100 pairs coming from all over the country including a slew of pro and amateur golfers from South Korea.
“The course condition today was really hard especially the pin placement, so, yeah we did not play so good but we still tied 27th out of 100 pairs,” said Dy.
The other Cebuano Gen Nagai paired with pro Eric Gozo and secured the 23rd place.
The other two Cebuano pairs who joined the competition, pro Agustin “Gus” Mata and Arsenio Mata and the duo of Andrew Ong and LJ Ong, bombed out of the competition after two days.
Winning the competition were pro golfer Richard Abaring and Davao’s Karloz Alba. The duo scored a 71 on the first day, followed by a 73 and 75 on the second and third days. Second place went to the pair of Paul Minoza and Francis Morilla, who finished with a 72-77-74.
Reymon Jaraula and Noel Langgamin took third place with 79-72-74.
The Cebuanos are using this tournament in Davao to prepare for bigger and more vital tournaments this week.
Lined up this week are the Asian Development Tour Philippine Leg of the Aboitiz Golf Invitational tournament to kick off on July 24-27 at the Cebu Country Club.
Cebu will be sending three pro golfers in Charles Hong, Dy and Mata along with Cebu’s top amateur golfers LJ Go, Marko Sarmiento, Gio Gandionco and Nagai.
