Ceneco board to tackle referendum on May 9

THE Board of Directors of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) will decide on the date of the referendum for the cooperative’s direction on May 9.

Ceneco president Arnel Lapore noted that Ceneco consumer-members will have three options which will be decided during the referendum.

These include whether to stay as an electric cooperative under the National Electrification Administration like the present, be registered with the Cooperative Development Authority to become a full cooperative, or be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock cooperative.

“Let’s make a stand. Let us participate, let your voice be heard,” Lapore said.

He added that it is Ceneco's goal that by year 2020, they would be able to light up all of their coverage areas in partnership with the concerned government units.

Ceneco covers Bacolod City, Talisay City, Silay City, Bago City, Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.

Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya emphasized transparency during his speech as guest speaker in Sunday’s assembly.

“We should not be contended with having a better choice, the challenge is to have the best choice for Ceneco for the best condition of everyone,” Gasataya said.

He added that Bacolod is one of the cities in the country which is vastly progressing as big and new investors have been coming in.

“We should be prepared for this progress without sacrificing our small consumers,” the lawmaker said.

In her report, finance manager Chuchie Destriza said for years 2016 and 2015, operations resulted to a net income of P131.51 million which was a great improvement from negative results in 2014.

“This is the effect of lowering down the system loss to below the 13 percent cap set by the Energy Regulatory Commission,” she added.
