Ceneco slates bidding for 50-MW base load

THE Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) will open the bidding for its 50-megawatt (MW) base load capacity this coming December.

This was confirmed by general manager Sulpicio Lagarde, who said that Ceneco’s power sales contract with Kepco-Salcon Power Corp. will expire by the end of the year.

“It will undergo the competitive selection process so other power producers could participate,” Lagarde said.

He said that by December, Ceneco would need a total base load of about 64MW, and they will set aside 15-20 MW for biomass.

Biomass comes from agricultural wastes such as rice hull, bagasse, coconut shell/husk, and coconut coir.

Moreover, Lagarde said that Ceneco has stable power at this time.

Its peak load is sourced from diesel power producer Energreen Power Development and Management Inc. in Bago City.

Lagarde said Energreen’s advantage is that it does not have the transmission cost because it is imbedded in the area of Ceneco.
