THE Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), in partnership with Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Mass Communication students, will launch next week a jingle to encourage Dabawenyos to properly segregate their waste.
Cenro Head Eliza Madrazo, during the I-Speak weekly media forum held at Davao City Hall Conference Hall, said the jingle is part of the enhancement of the information and education campaign (IEC) program introduced by the Ateneo de Davao Students.
“This is the first time that a school came to us and volunteer to make this program effective,” Madrazo said.
She noted that this initiative is a first after sixteen years of the implementation of solid waste and management law.
Ces Rodriguez, professor from the Ateneo de Davao University, said the jingle will be played in barangays and it will also be played by the Cenro collection trucks during the time of garbage collection.
Madrazo clarified the audio will be played in a compact disk in every barangay.
Aside from the jingle, an audio-visual presentation will also be uploaded in social media to reach the younger generation.
John Kevin Espino, a Mass Communication student from ADDU said there is no money involved in the distribution of media materials.
“The audio and video will be posted on FB (Facebook). There is no money involved. This is an initiative from us,” Espino said.
Rodriguez said aside from the jingle, the students will also video a flash mob and upload it in social media.
A “Make it Limpyo” open for all fun run will also be participated by the students also in partnership with Cenro.
Students will also launch a “Let’s Make it Limpyo” campaign in social media.
Espino said this initiative was done after the assessment of the current materials for IEC.
He added they are hopeful that in using new platforms for the solid waste management, Dabawenyos will be more encouraged to segregate waste.
“Hopefully, we will be proud of doing this (segregation), and inspire others to do the same,” he said. (KVC)
