Cesafi official owns up bench clearing issue

AFTER an investigation conducted by an official of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), Danny Duran, deputy commissioner, owned up the fault as he just wanted to prevent things to escalate.

"All I wanted is to prevent things to escalate. One minute and 17 seconds is a lot of time, many things can happen in that span. That is why I declared bench clearing in order to stop any possible trouble to happen," Duran said.

The investigation was headed by Cesafi deputy commissioner lawyer Marven Pañares on Friday, September 15, at Virginia Food Inc. office in Gorordo, Cebu City.

Meanwhile, four players from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers Kenneth Cada, Edwin Villarta, Jhammer Ranceli and Ranje Mangayo will be suspended for one game along with assistant coaches Allan Cabatingan and Kareem Alocillo who were tagged as the individuals entering the court without permission.

Cesafi, as of the meantime, won’t field referees Rolando Yamelo, Melvin Caumeran and Jebrel Calma, who were subject to complaint of USPF, in any college games pending the investigation that will be conducted further by the commissioner's office.

On Thursday’s USPF Panthers vs University of Cebu Webmasters game, September 14, the officiating officials “walked out” after a bench clearing decision to the USPF Panthers.

USPF complained against Duran, technical chief Ed Aguelo, and the table officials who sat during the USPF Panthers vs University of Cebu Webmasters game on Thursday, September 14. (RCM/SunStar Cebu)
