Chavez, Nierra, Galendez shine in tenpin tournaments

DAVAO Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) members Crystal Chavez and Manny Nierra, also part of Team Prima, put up strong finishes in the just-concluded Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) Philippine International Open 2017 at the Coronado Lanes, Starmall along Edsa in Mandaluyong City.

Chavez rolled a total of 1,807 pinfalls after 10 games to secure the runner-up honors as TBAM'S Rochelle Munsayac clinched the ladies title by rolling 1,850 pins.

Chavez, in a Facebook interview with Sun.Star Davao, felt elated with her unexpected achievement considering some rated opponents in her division and the unfamiliar lanes.

"I really tried hard to take home the title po knowing that I'm the score leader after nine games. Sa 10th and final game, maganda yung nilaro nung sumunod sa akin and I fell a little short kasi going to the 10th game, I got a bruise po sa aking fingers kaya medyo nahirapan po akong tumira because of the injury," Chavez said.

Nierra, for his part, placed third in the senior men's division by hitting 2,039 pinfalls. Champion Tony Zuleta of Mandaluyong Bowlers Association struck for a total of 2,110 pins while second placer PSB's Par Pineda garnered 2,075 pinfalls.

Meanwhile, NCCC Mall Davao B3 ambassadress Tessa Diane Galendez also made Davao City proud with her runner-up finish in the Alabang Tenpin Bowlers Association (Atba) Open Bowling Championships at the Astrobowl Starmall in Alabang.

Galendez scored 2,118 pins, trailing titlist ATBA's Bobby Quiambao (2,132) who capitalized on his home court advantage.

"(I wasn't able to bring home the title) Maybe because I was nervous and pressured that time since it’s a long time before I get back to play in Manila again after the SM Cup," Galendez said, in a separate Facebook interview.

Galendez, however, was satisfied with her performance as she reaped the fruits of her labor.

"Pero masaya naman ako kahit first runner up lang dahil nagbunga lahat ng practice and preparations before ako pumunta," added Galendez.
