Children’s Games to visit Tondo

MANILA - The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), through the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI), will conduct the Children’s Games’ ‘Palaro Kontra Droga: PSC-PSI Manila Multi-Sport Camp’ in Smokey Mountain, Tondo over the weekend.

PSI NCR Program Coordinator and former PSC Deputy Executive Director Cesar V. Pradas said that “the PSC wants participants to discover their talents and potential in baseball and softball, finish college and mold them to become good citizens.”

The event is intended for the youth of rural families residing in Smokey Mountain Field in Tondo, Manila.

Through the initiative of PSC Chairman William Ramirez and supervision of PSI national director Marc Velasco, the event will focus not only in the value of youth in sports, but also seek to encourage the younger generation in fighting illegal drug use.

The program will be in partnership with the City of Manila and public schools of Tondo.

Baseball and softball games will be held at the Smoking Mountain Field on Saturday, while swimming and taekwondo games will be conducted at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex on Sunday. At least 500 children are expected to attend.

“The youth will enjoy playing and will appreciate the value and importance of sports in their lives. They will feel that they have roles to play in our society, thus building their self-confidence,” he added. (PR)
