Chinese couple nabbed for ‘fake’ cigarettes

OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 arrested a couple for allegedly selling fake cigarettes.

Sunxu Zhou, 46, and his partner Hong Yue Hui, 52, were caught last Sunday in North Reclamation Area, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

The two were nabbed in an entrapment for allegedly selling counterfeit Philip Morris products at 6:30 p.m.

The arresting team was led by Supt. Fermin Armendarez III of the CIDG 7-Metro Cebu, together with a representative from Phillip Morris.

The suspects were arrested after delivering the products to an undercover CIDG agent in exchange for a P134,000 check.

The operatives confiscated eight cartons containing 50 reams of counterfeit Mighty cigarettes, two cartons with 50 reams of counterfeit Fortune cigarettes, one carton containing 50 reams of counterfeit Winston cigarettes and one carton with 50 reams of fake Hope cigarettes.

Charges

They will face charges for alleged violation of Section 155.1 of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines that penalizes any person who uses in commerce any reproduction, counterfeit, copy, or colorable imitation of a registered mark without the consent of the owner of the registered mark.

Meanwhile, drug suspect Joel Secretaria, 43, was arrested in a raid in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City at 5:30 a.m.

Police confiscated three sachets of shabu weighing 0.06 grams.

Secretaria, a drug personality included in the list of the Mandaue City Police Office, was caught by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Estela Alma-Singco of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12.
