CIDG operative, suspect hurt in shootout

AN OPERATIVE of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Bacolod was injured after he was shot by a suspect who was the subject of alias and search warrants at Purok Kabugwason, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City Wednesday morning, October 25.

The suspect, Prudencio Rosarito Jr., was also hit during an exchange of fire.

Chief Inspector Ray Cuanico, head of CIDG-Bacolod, said one of his colleagues, whom he refused to name for security reasons, was hit, prompting them to return fire.

The policeman, who was wounded in the waist, was brought to a private hospital.

Cuanico said that when their team attempted to serve the warrants issued by Judge Rosario Ester-Ordacaise of Regional Trial Court Branch 48 in Bacolod City around 6 a.m., Rosarito fired at them.

A 15-minute firefight followed, with Rosarito firing from the bedroom of his mother’s house.

Rosarito decided to surrender when he was hit in his right hand. He was assisted by his partner and sister when he went out of the house.

Operatives recovered from his possession a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with seven ammunition and an empty magazine.

The CIDG then searched the house and confiscated eight sachets of suspected "shabu" (methamphetamine hydrochloride) placed in a pouch, ammunition of M203 rifle grenade, and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was placed under surveillance for two months.

Cuanico said Rosarito has been reported by some his neighbors because of his behavior. He has previous cases for his involvement in other crimes.

Rosarito is being guarded by CIDG operatives and personnel of Police Station 7 while being confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Cuanico said Rosarito will be charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of explosive, and possession of illegal drugs.
