CIDG searching for Demafelis recruiters

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has already established a lead which may result in the apprehension of the recruiters of slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis, a police official said Monday, February 26.

“May effort din ang CIDG para hanapin ‘yung recruiters ni Demafelis. Meron na silang lead,” said PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa, who refused to divulge any other information regarding the matter.

Demafelis was recruited by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Global E-Human Resources Incorporated, whose license has been revoked by the government.

Demafelis left the country in 2014 to work as a household helper in Kuwait. She went missing in November 2016.

Her body was found inside a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait.

Her former employers, Nader Essam Assaf and his wife Mona, have been arrested.

Dela Rosa said he also ordered the Iloilo police to beef up the deployment of personnel in the vicinity of Demafelis’ residence following the reported threat against some of her relatives.

Meantime, CIDG director Roel Obusan said they are collecting data on all the recruitment agencies in the country should they need it in the future.

“We are collecting data of all recruitment agencies para mapagtugma ang legal sa illegal. Nakikita natin na kahit ‘yung mga legal may maltreatment, just in case may mangyari na ulit na ganito hindi tayo empty handed,” he said.(SunStar Philippines)
