City Council backs plan to build Negros-Panay bridges

THE City Council passed a resolution expressing Bacolod City's full support to the plan of President Rodrigo Duterte to build bridges that will interconnect the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros.

The resolution also requested Mayor Evelio Leonardia to make representations with the Regional Development Council (RDC)-Western Visayas to fast track the bidding.

Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan, who authored the resolution, quoted the press release of Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao, chairperson of RDC- Western Visayas, on December 8, stating that President Duterte’s plan to construct the bridges is being pushed through.

The bidding thereof is expected to take place in mid-2018.

Such project was conceptualized for already a very long time by various local and national leaders, but for one reason or another, did not push through, the resolution said.

The construction of bridges to connect had been the dream of so many for already a long time and when realized, it is believed that it will usher in rapid socio-economic progress and development to the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros, it added.
