THE Cebu City Government is now preparing Block 27 where survivors from the fire in Sitio Warwick Barracks in Barangay Ermita will stay.
The survivors, composed of 180 families, are temporarily living in tents near the viaduct near the entrance of South Road Properties (SRP).
The City is developing Block 27 to convince the fire victims to transfer there.
Raquel Arce, chief of Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement (Probe), said the City is only after the safety of the families, particularly children.
The tents are close to the busy SRP road and the area is facing the sea. This prompted Mayor Michael Rama to let the families relocate temporarily to Block 27.
Facility
City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said the City will manage the facility in Block 27.
It will have the same setup as that of the tent city and will be better compared to the viaduct area, Mercado said.
It will have facilities such as comfort rooms and washing and cooking areas.
Tents
The beneficiaries will still be staying in tents.
The Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and General Services Office (GSO) personnel have started leveling the ground and adding filling materials in Block 27.
Mercado said this will prevent the tents from being flooded when it rains. Right now, the families are hesitant to transfer to Block 27.
Arce said the families worry about the distance from Block 27 to their vending areas in Warwick Barracks and their children’s schools.
Rama has told them the City can provide them with transportation, such as buses. (RVC)
