City, MSMED council to craft programs for better biz climate

THE City Government of Davao is now working closely with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Council to craft programs that will encourage more businesses to thrive in Davao.

City Administrator lawyer Zuleika Lopez, in an interview on Monday, July 3, said they aim to facilitate more MSMEs and to carve easier access in government transactions.

“The city is in full support with the MSME, so we are working with the MSMED Council to come up with ways on how to better facilitate and encourage them to have the entrepreneur spirit and to make the transactions easy for them,” Lopez said.

She added that the city is currently working with the MSMEs to improve the services delivery of the city government to come up with the environment for the MSMEs to thrive because.

Lopez said the Department of Trade and Industry data shows that there are only very few large corporations that exist in Davao City and Davao and majority of the entrepreneurs belong to medium scale entrepreneurs.

“It is incumbent upon us to support entrepreneurs. [In this way] we also support the city's growth because they are the ones who contribute to job generation and in terms of money that goes around in the economy,” she added.

Proclamation No. 06 Series of 2012 marks the second week of July and every year after as Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Davao City.

The yearly week long celebration aims to institute continuing awareness and primacy of small business in nation-building and in people empowerment.
