City tourism chief appeals for retention of DOT head

THE official of the City Tourism Office in Davao has appealed to Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo to reconsider her decision to reassign Tourism Regional Director Robby Alabado III.

"He is very knowledgeable of the region," DCT Operations Head

Generose Tecson said.

Tecson told SunStar Davao that they wish that Alabado would remain in office as much of the plans for Davao tourism were made and fine-tuned with him, the various tourism officers, councils, and associations.

She further pointed out that Davao Region is expecting to receive and host more MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and events) activities.

"RD Rob has given the city if not the whole region his wholehearted support and pushed for the betterment of the industry... I really hope that Secretary Teo will reconsider and make RD Rob stay on to finish the various programs and projects that he has initiated," said Tecson.

Other tourism-related organizations based in Davao have yet to comment as they have not received nor read the final order signed by Teo.

However, they said they will continue to support whoever the new regional director would be in the interest of the tourism sector in the city.

The order signifying the reassigning of 26 tourism officials was signed by Teo last January 4 and is effective immediately.

The officials are given a week to turn over documents and other information to the next highest personnel in the office.

As per the order signed by Teo, Alabado will be assigned to the Medical Tourism sector while Antonio Fernando Blanco will be the new Tourism Regional Director of Davao.
