CMOFA congress set on Nov. 30

CAGAYAN Misamis Oriental Football Association (CMOFA), the ruling body of football in this part of the country, is set to hold its first ordinary congress for all clubs and stakeholders on November 30.

CMOFA president Percy Guarin yesterday announced that the congress will start at 1 p.m. The venue will be announced later.

Only active CMOFA member clubs are invited to the congress. Each clubs or any stakeholders are allowed to send in only one representative.

The main agenda of the forum is to finalize the CMOFA constitution by laws which has been required by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) to be completed as early as last year.

Included in the agenda will be the identification of the members of the association.

"This is very important as the CMOFA has been in existence for a long time now but the membership is still vague," Guarin said.

Also to be finalized during the congress is what exactly is the name of the association as the original name MOCAGESCO Regional Football Association stated in the new constitution and by laws has been heavily criticized.

MOCAGESCO is an acronym for Misamis Oriental Cagayan Ginggoog El Salvador Camiguin and Opol. They are the big cities and municipalities that comprise the association.

There are suggestions that the association retains the CMOFA and replace Cagayan with Camiguin as Cagayan is already part of Misamis Oriental. However, some members are also questioning the importance of Camiguin as football is not really played in the island province.

Guarin will also present his future plans for the association and deliver his financial report. The former national team player from Dumaguete was elected president as CMOFA president in 2015 replacing Mike Batiles. His tenure as CMOFA president will end in 2019.
