A POLICEMAN got injured when he was hit by two men believed to be drunk in front of a convenience store at Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City early Sunday morning, August 27.

Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman Jr., head of Police Station 8, said involved was one of his men, Police Officer 2 Roberto Gaurana, 36, who was having a snack with his wife around 2:30 a.m. when the encounter took place.

Gaurana saw Clark Niña, 19, and Benjamin Javellana, 36, both of Bacolod City, threw an empty bottle of beer on the street.

He introduced himself as a police officer and tried to pacify the two, but Niña hit him.

Gaurana decided to arrest them, then Javellana grabbed the policemen’s gun. The police tried to take back his gun from Javellana, however, Niña punched him several times.

Responding police officers arrived and arrested Javellana while Niña managed to escape.

Gaurana sustained head injuries and was brought to a hospital.

Charges for disobedience and direct assault to an agent of person in authority will be filed against Javellana, who is detained at the station.
