Cop hurt trying to pacify suspect

A PERSONNEL of Police Station 7 sustained bruises while trying to pacify a man who resisted arrest at Villa Angela Site in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City on Friday.

Injured was Police Officer 3 Jonie Regalado.

Senior Inspector Ramel Sarona, head of Police Station 7, said they responded to a call for assistance from a woman who reported her husband for physical abuse.

Police officers came to arrest 32-year-old John Pila, but he fought them and tried to seize Regalado’s M16 rifle. They had a scuffle.

Pila was subdued by policemen who recovered from him a 10-inch knife tucked in his waist.

Regalado sustained minor injuries in his head and knees while the suspect also had bruises in his head.

Sarona said charges for resisting arrest, direct assault upon person in authority, and violation of Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 were filed last Saturday against Pila, who is detained at the station.
