Cops target zero incidents of indiscriminate firing

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao warns all gun owners including law enforcers against indiscriminate firing as it targets zero incidents of strayed bullets across the region for the New Year’s celebration.

Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II, PRO-Northern Mindanao deputy spokesperson, said the Northern Mindanao police have been ordered to ensure that none will be victimized by indiscriminate firing.

Hortillosa said policemen caught and proven to have fired their service firearm out of duty will face dismissal from service apart from criminal charges.

Civilians using their guns will likely face illegal discharge of firearms charges and illegal possession of firearms if the gun is not licensed.

"Basi sa order sa PNP (Philippine National Police) chief ug ni regional director, dapat buhaton tanan nga mahimo sa police nga walay mabiktima sa stray bullets," Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said all policemen will have no break from noon of October 31 until 5 a.m. of January 1, 2017.

The police official clarified that policemen will take their rounds of duty during New Year’s Eve.

PRO-Northern Mindanao urged the public to document individuals who are using guns and to immediately report to authorities.

"Hangyo nato sa public nga kuhaan og picture ug video aron strong ang evidence sa kaso kay naa mga kaso sauna nga nasulbad tungod sa pag-document," Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said station commanders and town chief of police will likely face relief from their post once an incident of indiscriminate firing is not solved.

"Break-in gayud ang order nga kung naay makita-an nagpabuto pangitaan gayud paagi nga madakpan," he said.

"Sa kabahin sa police gisalig ang atong PNP chief, busa wala giselyohan ang mga armas pero ang kondisyon taktakon gyus sa serbisyo if mapamatud-an," Hortillosa added.

The Philippine National Police has earlier announced that they will not seal the muzzle of their guns for the holidays. Police Chief Ronald Dela Rosa wanted to change the tradition to show the public that they are disciplined and responsible enough in using their government-issued firearms.
