DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) chief Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. warned the public to refrain from posting photos or statuses on social networking sites about plans this weekend as it might give robbers an idea.
Danao said Facebook users are advised to upload their photos only after their vacation or as soon as they have reached home.
He said people nowadays are being dependent with social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and update almost every hour.
"Sa Facebook, huwag niyo ipopost na nandun ka sa Cagayan kasi target agad yung bahay mo," he told reporters in an interview at the Grand Men Seng Hotel on Monday evening, adding that doors and windows must be kept locked.
He said robbers or Akyat Bahay Gang usually attack houses during Holy Week, especially on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, since family members are out, attending masses or vacationing.
Danao advised the public to be always vigilant.
"We cannot cover everything. Be vigilant. The threat is always there. So kung meron tayong ma monitor na kaduda-duda, report niyo lang agad sa pulis," he said.
He said at least a thousand of elements of the DCPO are already deployed since Sunday to ensure the safety and security.
He said personnel are deployed in malls, major thoroughfares, tourist destinations and churches.
