Cor Jesu College routs Holy Cross, 81-51

THE Cor Jesu College (CJC) of Digos crushed Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS), 81-51, in seniors division 1 event of the Gaisano Grand Cup "Game of the Rising Stars" Basketball Tournament that opened at the Gaisano Grand Citimall Sky Gym over the weekend.

CJC team captain Cloyd Casas connected four three pointers to finish with 12 points as teammate Vincent Senajon added eight.

CJC moved ahead 42-21 at the half as HCCS players could not get their acts together, thus, the Digos-based team went on to seal the match.

The Rey Romulo Senarillos-coached CJC also leaned on the services of Clint Dave Elivera, Marc Neil Laput, Geric Paquera, Gabriel Ponpon, Jesterome Quinco, Rey Mathew Senarillos, Jayric Pitogo, Jayric Jariol, and Christoffer Sabornido.

Senarillos, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said he expected Davao teams to have vast experience considering that there were many leagues created in the city rather than in Digos.

"First time namin sumali dito and the kids were able deliver," Senarillos.

He added they look forward to play against Ateneo de Davao University.

Karis Sports Institute chairman Richard Berry, who was the keynote speaker, told the athletes to be a great teammate and just enjoy the game.

King's Sword Martial Arts-Abka, headed by Nell Jone Astudillo, demonstrated evangelical martial arts during the break.

The event was sponsored by Gaisano Grand Citimall.
