Cor Jesu College sweeps Dacs volleyfest

THE Cor Jesu College (CJC) of Digos men's and women's teams emerged champions in the recently-concluded Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Collegiate Volleyball Tournament held at the Philippine Women's College covered court recently.

The CJC volleybelles, for their part, lived up to their billing after connecting service aces and executing tight defense to secure a 25-19, 25-23, victory over Holy Cross of Davao College.

CJC men's team was powered by Clint Ivan Dura, Reddick Sollano, Philip Irvin Muico, Joeylan Hilado, Jason Buquel, Jun Daryl Singson, Jun Rey Guillermo, Joart Alimento, Jasper Alimento, Ivan Ordaneza, Tristan Sanico, Justine Reponte, John Lloyd Decripito and Dave Idpalina.

CJC head coach Serwin Castillon, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao, said they worked very hard just to be in their places right now, since the last time they won Dacs championship was way back 2013.

"Sinabiko sa mga players ko na kung di gaanong importante ang mga lakad ninyo, wag na kayo tumuloy at mag practice tayo," Castillon said.

He also said he already saw huge promise with his teams that reached the semifinals of the Abreeza Kadayawan Volleyball recently.

He added that Philippine Volleyball Federation regional director Engineer D'Artagnan "Daks" Yambao's teachings were also a big impact on where he is now.

Castillon then thanked CJC president Ella Kim Sosmeña and vice president Br. Ernesto Quidet as well as sports coordinator Paul Patrick Rodriguez for their support. (ABM)
