Costanilla: Ate Gay, John Lapus Callalily in a show

SHOW. Come July 19, at 8 p.m, the Cebu Coliseum will surely roar with non-stop laughter and rock music as Ate Gay, John Sweet Lapus, Rock Prince Kean Cipriano and the Callalily Band will take the center stage in a show simply titled Laugh ‘n Rock! It will be presented by Cheng Entertainment & Promotion.

Song. Remember Dandin Ranillo, the multi-awarded US-based artist? This good friend of mine who is into songwriting and film directing informed us that he is now busy recording a brand new Sinulog song, this time with English lyrics to cater to the international market. He told us that this new composition will still retain the essence and message of his two other Sinulog songs in Cebuano that we always hear every January.

Appreciate. We appreciate Ranillo’s effort in this respect, considering the fact that Sinulog, as a yearly festival, continues to attract a lot of people from all walks of life to Cebu. He assured us that his English Sinulog composition is also danceable and would definitely delight and amaze the general public. We trust that Ranillo can deliver on his promise, as he did with his previous commitments.

Timetable. Of course, Ranillo is running against time because whether he likes it or not, this brand new Sinulog song should be completed as soon as possible. He then can still have enough time to personally deliver a demo copy to Sinulog Foundation executive director Ricky Ballesteros for him to hear it first prior to its formal launching. But I know Ranillo, despite his very hectic work schedule in California as a nurse, can make it well ahead of his self-imposed timetable.

Movie. Still on Ranillo, he is bent on doing another Visayan movie after his debut directorial work titled Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot, a remake of the 1969 film that starred his mother, the veteran actress Gloria Sevilla, and boxing hero Gabriel “Flash” Elorde. The second movie is still in the planning phase, so we expect all well-meaning individuals to support it, particularly on the financial side of producing it.

If there is one person who is so passionate about reviving the “dormant” Visayan film industry, it is none other than Ranillo despite his being based in California.

Tourism. We are bound for the mid-west Pinamungajan town this afternoon to emcee the formal inaugural of our very dear friend Glenn Fuentes Baricuatro as municipal mayor.

The simple ceremonies will be early tonight. After a cocktail party at the town hall and a fireworks display at the Kiosko, his inauguration program will immediately follow in which the new mayor is expected to announce his plans and programs for Pinamungajan. We are particularly anticipating for his points on tourism, a subject close to our heart, since the town has a lot to offer in terms of tourist attractions.

Rep. Gwen Garcia will also speak in the program. The evening will also feature the Centerfold Band whose danceable repertoire will absolutely entertain the crowd. Talk of non-stop ballroom and disco dancing.
