ANTHEM. We commend a local mall here for featuring the Lupang Hinirang as a song that all movie viewers should sing shortly before the last full screening of a film. The concept is simple: flashed on the widescreen are the lyrics of Lupang Hinirang, without any accompaniment, so that the movie-going public will be encouraged to sing loudly. This is a much better innovation compared to the usual concept where the anthem is played as a pre-taped thing while the movie spectators just simply listen to it.
Nationalism. To our mind, this is the best concept. The aim is to encourage and promote nationalism among those that are fond of watching films. We hate to see some people inside cinemas who do not stand at attention every time the anthem is played before the last full showing of a movie. Such big disrespect should be stopped.
Recital. We witnessed the successful performance of five recitalists from the music department of Tabor Hill College-OAD in Barangay San Jose this city. Jerielyn Budomo, Edward Lois Invento, Rosemariejoy Cinco, Maxell Joseph Muldez and Jeconiah Retulla were under the tutelage of maestro Dennis Gregory Sugarol, the school’s applied music/voice director. Each of them sang two kundiman songs aside from their duet numbers. We also laud Dr. Milagros Cañete for her dynamic leadership as dean of the college. Also present during the program were Fr. Renel Cabag OAD, vice president for academic affairs; Fr. Crisologo Suan OAD, commissary provincial; and Fr. Raffy de Gracia, head of the philosophy department.
Workshop. There is a musical theater workshop designed for ages eight to19 that the lovely and talented Faye Danika Go will personally conduct from April 21 to May 23 at Cebu Parklane International Hotel.
