Costanilla: Wanted: 9th Idol

EVENTS. Several exciting and colorful events are being lined up to mark the annual Sinulog Festival, considered one of the largest festivities across the country. To name all of the events would eat up a lot of our space here, so let me just mention some of the major must-see activities. One would be the seven-night Sinulog Idol singing competition, now on its ninth season. The venue is Plaza Independencia.

SONGS. Another is the 38th Cebu Popular Music Festival, the longest-running songwriting competition organized by the Cebu Arts Foundation Inc. and chaired by Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas. It takes place on Jan. 19 at the International Eucharistic Convention Center in Mabolo.

HIGHLIGHT. The third is actually the highlight of the Sinulog Festival, which is the day-long grand parade to be capped with the ritual and showdown. I don’t know if this year’s grand parade will wind up at the South Road Properties as earlier planned.

GREETING. On a personal note, let me greet in advance my very good friend Margarito Ornopia Jr., lead founder of the Sugboanong Musikero Inc., as he marks his birthday on Friday, Jan. 12. Boss Gitoy, cheers!

FORUM. Let me felicitate the new set of officers of the Sugboanong Komentaristang Nagpakabana (Sukna) for their twice monthly media forum aptly tagged Suknaay sa Sukna. Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete, owner and general manager of dyPC 88.7 FM, is the Sukna president. He has a three-year term. (For reactions, call/text 0932-277-8771.)
